For beginner learning or practice, any smooth soled shoe that slides across the floor (without sticking) will do. You don't want to hurt your knees with sticky shoes.
Leather or suede soles are good for that "just right" level of friction. Most dance shoes have suede soles. As a your dancing progresses, you may want real dance shoes.
