ABOUT US
The Aggie West Coast Swing Dance Club aka "Aggie Westies", is a recognized student organization of Texas A&M University (TAMU). Its purpose is to promote West Coast Swing (WCS) dancing both at TAMU and in the Bryan/College Station (BCS) area. Members come from A&M, Blinn, and the community at large.
We aim to make WCS lessons and social dances available at an affordable cost to everyone in the BCS area.
The club was formed in summer 2014 with Alex Hansen as the founding President, and Andrew Nemec as the founding Treasurer.
New students in Fall 2014 included national-level WCS competitors Tommy Brodie, Monica Garcia, and Tyler Jones, who worked together to start the first weekly WCS classes for the club in Fall 2014.
Dr. Suma Datta is the faculty advisor, and she has been dancing WCS for the past 15 years with her husband, Scott.
The Aggie Westies are now entering our ninth full year of operation. We offer two levels of weekly classes, and each semester we have one or two big social dances which draw many excellent dancers from Houston, Austin, and other parts of Texas.
Many of our members also do other dances including Ballroom, Country, Salsa, Tango, Lindy, or Blues, and some members have done ballet/jazz/modern or other styles as well.
And you will often see our club members at Harry's on Thursday nights.
